According to the Las Cruces Sun-News, a story that the New Mexico Department of Transportation has begun the bid process for Spaceport America road improvements. The bid is to improve County Road AO13 from Engle in Sierra County, south of the intersection of AO13 and AO39, which is the entrance to the planned spaceport. NMDOT will continue accepting bids until July 18 and work on the project is expected to begin around September. It is hoped the project will conclude by the end of the year.

The spaceport is the nation's first purpose-built facility for commercial space flight. The facility should be complete by 2010.
