Here’s what we’re reading today:
First, the AP is reporting that Hillary Clinton will concede the democratic presidential primary today. Link (via the Chicago Sun Times)
Locally, the big news, of course, is that it’s election day, and the Albuquerque Journal is predicting high turnout. Polls will be open until 7 p.m. Don’t know where to vote? Your county clerk’s office can tell you. For example, if you live in Albuquerque, click here.
For Santa Fe County, click here.
For Doña Ana County, click here.
Perhaps some of you political junkies will go into media overload tonight and follow the returns the way my dad used to watch football games: with the sound on the TV turned off and the radio on. For all you old-schoolers, Joe Monahan reminds us today that he’ll be joining the team calling the game tonight on KANW 89.1 FM, starting at 6:30 p.m.
If you want to watch the returns in the company of like-minded friends, NMI’s own Matt Reichbach, writing on his blog, has compiled a list of election night parties.
Back to national news for a moment, here's a juicy little tidbit: Does Matt Drudge, of the infamous Drudge Report support Obama? Jonathan Martin and Ben Smith over at Politico call the blogger a “stalwart of the conservative message machine,” but wonder, after analyzing recent postings, if he isn’t favoring Obama over McCain. They write:
Now, as Obama and Sen. John McCain look toward the fall, Drudge has emerged unexpectedly as more of a threat to the Republican than to the Democrat. This, combined with the rise of left-leaning sites such as TalkingPointsMemo.com and HuffingtonPost.com — both of which have proved effective in promoting and amplifying a Democratic message — reflects a major shift from the last two presidential elections, a matter of open alarm to Republican strategists and surprised satisfaction to Democrats.

I voted this morn at about 8:30 and walked right in, no wait, and when I left only one other person had arrived.
I hope it’s heavy turnout. Whether we like what’s happening in our country, whether we believe that the voting process has been compromised or is sacrosanct, the right to vote is something we should NEVER take for granted.
