Here's a short roundup of what the papers around the Land of Enchantment find important today.

 

The Albuquerque Journal's Washington D.C. correspondent, Michael Coleman, wrote about Senate Democrats who, under pressure to stem rising gasoline prices, on Wednesday proposed a new tax on oil companies and a crackdown on Wall Street speculators. 

The Las Cruces Sun-Times is reporting from Alamogordo that the Otero County Commission is proposing a June public hearing on a possible one-eighth of 1 percent gross receipts tax to fund the new spaceport in Upham.
 
From the Santa Fe New Mexican, more than 125 people weigh in on what the new downtown building should be called. The new building will replace the Sweeney Center.
