The Albuquerque Journal city government reporter, Dan McKay, posted on the Journal's Web site today that Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez's right-hand man, Bruce Perlman, is out at City Hall.
Seeing as Chavez hand-picked Perlman to be the chief administrative officer of the city nearly three years ago, it seems odd that the mayor himself didn't issue a statement about Perlman's departure. McKay's story said the mayor only confirmed that Perlman is leaving.
It's also odd that Chavez has already named the city's chief operations officer, Ed Adams, to replace Perlman. One wonders if Perlman had fallen out of the mayor's good graces lately as friction between the city council and Chavez increased, or if Adams has simply risen to the top of Chavez's administrative favorites list.
Perlman is a former director of the University of New Mexico's School of Public Administration.
