NM: Media Darling?

Get used to it, folks.

When it comes to politics, everybody’s talking about New Mexico these days. Our remote outpost has effectively been reframed as the center of the 2008 political storm.

Lil' Ol' NM made it onto the Huffington Post today, where Daryl Paranada describes us as the “ultimate swing state.” Nothing we didn't know, right? Paranada runs down the primary results and prospects for the fall, but his headline says it all: “NM: A Blue State Rising?

Also today, the British paper The Guardian posted a story about Congressional hopeful Martin Heinrich

Writer Elana Schor says, “If Barack Obama has any coattails this year, 36-year-old congressional candidate Martin Heinrich will surely be riding them into Washington.”

The story quotes UNM political science professor Christine Sierra as saying "Even though the general climate favours Democrats to win, I think White is going to go after Heinrich's relatively thin resume … [White is] perceived as a very effective sheriff. He's going to be running almost as an incumbent."
