Guv to Legislature: Full speed ahead!

By Trip Jennings 08/01/2008

Mark off Aug. 15, lawmakers. Gov. Bill Richardson is keeping to his timetable. That special session you heard about. Well, it's starting on time despite the doubts that are coming from the legislative financial types who worry that New Mexico isn't in as good a financial shape as some say it is.

According to The Associated Press, Richardon said Friday that he's going forward with the special session. Here's part of the AP report:

Richardson said Friday he remains confident about projections that show New Mexico with a revenue windfall from high energy prices. Some lawmakers worry that the windfall won't be as large as anticipated because of recent price declines for natural gas and oil.

The governor says he isn't scaling back his proposed $211 million economic relief package for the session that's to start Aug. 15. His initiatives include a one-time rebate that will average about $206 for each taxpayer in the state.

Hmmm. Here's a tip to anyone interested in grudge cage matches. Grab a front-row seat up at the Roundhouse in a couple of weeks.
